Cherry Barbecue Sauce

Fresh summer cherries make a delicious barbecue sauce that’s a perfect accompaniment for grilling. This Cherry BBQ Sauce adds rich, vibrant flavor to chicken, pork chops, pizza, or wraps.

Ingredients:

2 cups halved cherries, with pits removed

1 cup water

8 oz tomato sauce

⅓ cup brown sugar

¼ cup molasses

2 Tbsp balsamic vinegar

1 Tbsp apple cider vinegar

1 tsp liquid smoke

1 tsp garlic powder

½ tsp onion powder

½ tsp smoked paprika

½ tsp salt

Makes a half quart of BBQ sauce

Directions:

Add the cherries and water to a saucepan and simmer for 20 minutes. Then blend with an immersion blender until smooth. Add the remaining ingredients and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Then let cool and store in the refrigerator.

Ingredients

  • cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup molasses

  • 1 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp liquid smoke (optional)

Method
 

  1. Add the cherries and water to a saucepan and simmer for 20 minutes.
  2. Blend with an immersion blender until smooth.
  3. Add the remaining ingredients and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Remove the pan from the heat and let the sauce cool.
  5. Pour the sauce into a glass jar and store in the refrigerator.

Notes

This recipe makes a half quart of BBQ sauce
