Flor de Jamaica Popsicles

Flor de jamaica (Hibiscus sabdariffa), also known as roselle, is often enjoyed in a tasty, tart tea. It has long been utilized in folk medicine as a laxative, and as treatment for heart disease & nervous system disorders.

Modern research shows that this hibiscus species does indeed have many positive health effects. It is rich in antioxidants and vitamin C, which may be helpful in preventing various diseases. It also has anti-inflammatory properties.

Studies show flor de jamaica may also be helpful for lowering blood pressure and cholesterol (Hopkins et al., 2014), promoting weight loss, boosting liver health (Chang et al., 2014), and more.

These pretty popsicles are a simple way to enjoy the color, flavor, and health boosting effects of flor de jamaica.

Flor de Jamaica Popsicles

Course: Snack

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups water
  • 8 fresh flor de jamaica calyces
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar

Equipment

  • 1 Small pot
  • 1 strainer
  • popsicle molds

Method
 

  1. Add the water and calyces to a pot. Cover, bring to a boil, and simmer for 15-20 minutes. Then remove from the heat and let cool a bit.
  2. While the tea is still warm, strain out the herb and then stir in the sugar and let cool to room temperature.
  3. Pour the sweetened tea into popsicle molds. Place in the freezer until fully frozen.
