You will first make a strong elderberry decoction, or simmered tea. Add the elderberries and water to a small pot. Cover with a lid and bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 15 minutes.
Let the decoction cool to room temperature, then strain out the elderberries and set the liquid aside.
In a small sauce pan combine the elderberry decoction with the remaining ingredients. Simmer on low heat for about 10 minutes, stirring often.
Let the sauce cool. Then pour it into a jar. Store in the refrigerator.
